RELEASE DATE: 8/26/06 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties Fall at Georgian Court 3-1 – Lyndi Keiser scores first MU goal of season
“We had opportunities and so they did they,” said head coach Tim Dempsey. “The bottom line is they took better care of their opportunities than we did.” Georgian Court got off to a quick start on a goal by Vanessa Piepszak two minutes into the contest. Mansfield tied the score 26 minutes later when Kaytlen Robinson knocked the ball through a gap and Keiser outraced the defender to go high past the outstretched hands of the goalie. But Mansfield would allow a GCU goal less than one minute later to Katherine Torode while another Torode goal midway through the second half put the game on ice. The Mountaineers actually held a 13-12 advantage on shots, but could score just once. Sophomore Justine Seagear went the distance in goal recording seven saves. Mansfield falls to 0-2 on the season while Georgian Court improves to 1-1. The Mountaineers will take on Shippensburg in their home opener on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
