RELEASE DATE: 9/7/06 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Caroline Furmato Scores but Mounties Fall 2-1 at Lock Haven LOCK HAVEN -- The Mountaineer soccer team dropped a heartbreaker at Lock Haven on Thursday afternoon, falling 2-1 after a late score from the Lady Eagles.
Furmato beat the Lock Haven defenders and goalkeeper to chip the ball in from two yards out. The goal was her first of the season, and the second Mountaineer goal of 2006. The game remained 1-1 for the remainder of the first half and most of the second half until Lock Haven found their way to the back of the net on a shot from Diane Wall in the 81st minute to put the Bald Eagles on top for good. "We played well again today," said coach Dempsey. "We just got tired down the stretch of the second half." Lock Haven held a slight advantage on shots recording 17 over Mansfield's 15 shots. The Mountaineers held a definitive advantage in corner kicks, posting a 9-2 tally over Lock Haven. With the loss, Mansfield moves to 0-5 overall on the season and remains 0-3 in PSAC East play. The Mountaineers are back in action Saturday as they host Kutztown University in a PSAC East contest at the Soccer Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30pm.
