Coach Bruce is entering her sixth season at Mansfield where she has been instrumental in helping to build a solid foundation for the Mountaineer women’s basketball program.

Coach Bruce and head coach Ruth Hermansen work in a partnership at MU, sharing many recruiting, coaching and development responsibilities.

The former head basketball and volleyball coach at the University of Wisconsin at Marinette, she was also a physical education teacher at three different schools in Wisconsin.

 Bruce had extensive basketball coaching experience at several high schools before coming to MU. She directed Peshtigo High School (Peshtigo, WI) to an 18-5 record in 1998 and was an assistant at Seneca High School (Erie, PA) and Marinette High School (Marinette, WI)

  A 1990 graduate of Northern Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and recreation, Bruce was a scholarship athlete and served as co-captain of the women’s basketball team in her final three seasons.

In 1989, her team earned a berth in the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Championship with Bruce receiving the Coaches Award her senior season for Outstanding Leadership and Dedication.

A native of Marinette, WI, Bruce was a 1985 graduate of Marinette Catholic Central. Bruce was a first team all conference athlete in  basketball, volleyball and softball. The basketball team was Class B State Champions in 1982, 1983 and 1984.She received the "C" Award her senior year for the best Female Athlete of the Year.

Bruce also received certification to teach physical education and health in K-12 from Edinboro University in 1994.

Laurie resides in Mansfield with her husband Bobby, daughter Kelly and sons Daniel and Myles.
